We think of a forest as something static, a backdrop of the natural world, occupied by animals and plants, an ecosystem.


The forest is more than the sum of its parts; it is a living organism made up of every life inside it.



Each tree and mushroom exist in a network of soil like a nervous system; every bird is a transmitter.


You are not so different from a forest yourself.

Filled with cells and nerves, microorganisms, and bacteria, you are a biome too, a living community.




The earth and you are alive in the same way, and you are as important a part of the system of the earth as any mushroom or bird.
